Dubai Museum — located in Bastakia fort that was built in 1780 to protect the coast and people. The structure was built of limestone blocks and plastered with clay. Over the years the fort served as the residence of Sheikhs, barracks and even as a prison. In 1970 the fort was completely restored in its original form, and start to house a permanent exhibition. In 1995 the museum was reopened after reconstruction.

In the museum you can see the old ship’s cannon, dhows, the exposition of ancient weapons, traditional musical instruments. Also there is a Bedouin summer home called “barasti” along with its uncomplicated furnishings. There are a lot of interesting things to see include a souk peopled by waxworks, a skeletons collection, some examples of desert wildlife. There is a small fee for admission.

Also, there is a small shop where you can buy books, guidebooks and souvenirs at fixed prices.
